Medical Bill
A medical service was provided my wife two years ago at a local. Our medical insurance company paid the hospital the maximal allowable under our medical plan two years ago. Our deductible (25%) was met at the time. A cost share bill for $314.00 was sent to us over two years later. What is the law on time limit someone can bill you after a service has been provided-in our case over two years.

It is my understanding that the hospital may bill you medical services provided during your stay at the hospital for a maximum of three (3) years, pursuant to a straightforward application of the statute of limitations present in the Puerto Rico Civil Code. However, it will depend also on your contract with the hospital and on whether any special limitations apply when services are initially referred to a medical insurance.
