Guardianship

Realistically speaking... is this the only legal way that you can take care of your parents against their will?

My boyfriend's mother lives in Puerto Rico, and he would like to bring her to the States to live with us as she has a few disabilities and she is getting on in age. His sister already has a conservatorship (I guess that is just the financial affairs) over the mother, because she had been previously hospitalized for these same issues... but the sister will be getting married together soon, and needs to relinquish responsibilities because of familial blending.

Is there a way to get his mother to come and stay with us without the legal hassle of guarantorship/conservatorship? Oh... his sister is in agreeance with all decisions made as far as bringing his mother stateside.

Yes, guardianship is the only way. But your sister's Conservatorship duties may already include the power to determine where mom lives. You should read the original Order and check.
