Legal Question in Business Law in Rhode Island
Former Business Associate Provides False Information
My father and I, who are watch repairers, have spent over 25 years sharing a storefront with a jeweler. I decided to move to a storefront on my own and my father has come with me. The jeweler insists on telling customers my father is retired so he can get thier business and to prevent them from visiting my new store. I have called and told him repeatedly to stop telling this to these customers yet he continues to do so. Do I have any recourse? Thank you.

Re: Former Business Associate Provides False Information
With the caveat that more specific facts are necessary for a legal analysis, it appears that you may have an action for interference with business and/or lost business opportunities. Another possibility is a claim for slander, since the allegation of retirement is not true and it affects the pecuniary interest of you and/or father & your new business enterprise.
