Time Sensitive Business Question

have a small legal issue, I ordered some products for my company's event that arrived AFTER the event, so I didn't pay for it, and now I am being sued for a relatively small amount of money.

I responded at the kent county courthouse, and just received the lawyers response today at my office. The plaintiff's lawyer said that since I am a corporation, I cannot represent myself, but I am not a corporation, I am an LLC (limited liability COMPANY)

He moved to strike the proceedings, meaning that he wants my response removed from the record.

My question: as a limited liability company, NOT a corporation, do I need a lawyer to defend myself? (am I bound by law to hire representation)

Can a corporation or LLC represent themselves in Court in Rhode Island or is a RI Lawyer needed?

Pursuant to Rhode Island Law, A corporation cannot represent themselves in Small Claims, District Court, Superior Court or any Court in Rhode Island.

A limited Liability Compnay can also not reprsent themselves in a Rhode Island Court. I suggest that you retain a Rhode Island (RI) Lawyer / Attorney.

If you are unable to obtain an attorney by the Court date you need to answer the case, attend Court and ask for a continuance to obtain an Attorney.
