Re: Credit Card

Based upon the facts you have given, unfortunately you will be responsible for the charges that he made on your card ($13,000.00). Even though you authorized the cash advance for one purpose (Dentist) and he used it for another (Gambling) you still authorized the use and the cash advance. Ordinarily in situations such as this if you did not authorized the use you could file a police report and then have the credit card company go after the person criminally. However, no credit card company will remove the balance without a criminal compliant and police report. Now for some good news if you are only and authorized user on his credit card you cannot be held responsible for it. To be responsible you must have signed an actual credit application request form with the company, which would make you jointly and severally liable for the debt. If you did not request and sign for the credit privileges you cannot be held responsible for it and they cannot report the debt against you on a credit report. Write to them and tell them to remove your name from the account as it was not authorized by you and you have not made any purchase on the account.
