Legal Question in Criminal Law in Rhode Island

If a record is expunged (in a RI court), based on completion of community service, does that record show up in background search? Can we legally state that no crime was committed?

If truly expunged, it would not show up in any active search of state records but may, in theory if not practice, show up in a privately conducted background search.

It is unclear what you mean by no crime was committed. With some exceptions, you may state that you were never convicted of the crime. But the statute that you are asking about may be found here, so you can read it for yourself (love the internet!): http://www.rilin.state.ri.us/Statutes/TITLE12/12-1.3/12-1.3-4.HTM
