Legal Question in DUI Law in Rhode Island

transporting alcohol underage
My 18 year old friend got arrested for carrying beer in his trunk and my other 18 year old friend who sat in the back seat got arrested for having pot on him. I sat in the passenger side and a cop had me stand against a wall back to everything. Regardless i turned around in time to see one of the cops push the driver into his car. To add to this no rights were read. The cop that pushed the driver offered to let my friend in the back seat off if he handed oer the pot right away which he did. How should my friends handle there court date?
