Re: Husband has died - is wife responsible for credit card debt

The husband's estate is responsible for his credit card debt but not the wife.

The issue arises with respect to joint accounts, and assets that require probate.

Attorney Roth is correct in that a spouse is not responsible personally for the debt of the deceased spouse. Instead, his assets and estate will be liable for all debts while alive.

You should contact an attorney about how to best go about handling the estate and affairs of the deceased. Please feel free to contact me. I am located in Quincy.
