if my child was adopted by a family member,would the father have any legal rights to take or see the child?

In some cases, a father may still retain some legal rights depending upon the nature of the adoption.

Please provide more information. Was the family member adopting in lieu of you as the mother of the child? If so, this may be done with the father's consent but that does not necessarily terminate the father's rights or legal obligations to the child.

Did the father receive notice prior to the adoption that failure to appear might result in the termination of all his legal rights as a parent of the child?
