child support

My 12 year old son has lived with me all his life, and now wishes to go live with his father. His father has never paid me any support, is he entitled to child support?

Re: child support

If the child goes to live with his father and placement of your son is recognized to be with the father then in the State of Rhode Island the father is entitled to ask the court for an award of child support from you.

Your not having requested child support from the father in the past will have no bearing as to whether the placement parent can request child support from you from this point forward.

Yes, he is entitled to ask for an award of child support.
