Legal Question in Family Law in Rhode Island
DCYF - Neglect Court Case
My child lives with his mother in RI, I live out of
state in CT. I recently received a letter from
DCYF that, my child was in temporary custody, with discretion of placement, but still living with
his mother. I contacted DCYF about the matter,
and was told that there was a case of neglect,
and that I had to attend court. What could be
the outcome of this hearing. From what I
understood both parents are charged with
neglect.

I can not answer your question without more information. I do know that here in CT, DCF has charged both parents with neglect, if the non faulted parent knows that the other parent is committing neglect and did nothing about it.
Re: DCYF - Neglect Court Case
Unfortunately your are asking for a prediction as to any possible outcomes and/or charges that might result from the hearing depending upon the facts.
This is merely speculative. The outcome could simply be a reading of the charges and follow-up by a social worker. It could involve an inquiry as to whether you would take the child into placement during the case. It could involve the dismissal of any charge against you as a non-placement parent.
There are too many variables to project for you what will happen. What "could" happen is ...anything within the power of the court. It is that broad. I'm sorry I can't be of more help but you need to provide more information.
I highly recommend a full consultation with a family law attorney.
My best to you in this situation.
