Legal Question in Family Law in Rhode Island
divorcing addict
I would like to know what my rights are. My husband has a severe drug problem which has caused us to loose a car, and are near forclosure on our home. He has been stealing our money, bouncing checks etc. That is the reason I am thinking about divorce. We have our home on the market and I am concerned if it sells what my rights are. There is a lein on the property for back child support that my husband owes. What am I entitled to? I work full time and have not even taken a day off in about 4 years, to support our children. My compassion has run out for this problem. Can you give me any insight?

The issues you have presented are complicated and require that you seek legal representation immediately. You may have to seek relief by either restraining order or emergency motion in family court. The issues are too in depth to properly answer by email. I also need more information to answer the questions. However,I would be happy to set up a free initial consultation.

Your question presents many complicated issues and more information is needed before a proper answer can be given. However, the fact that the house may be sold in the near future with a lien for child support, which you presumambly are not responsible for raises a major issue where you may get stuck paying a bill for whicc you have no responsibility. You need to get legal help immeidiatley before anything further happens, especially before the house is sold.
