Re: ethics
Practically speaking an attorney should avoid speaking with his client's spouse during the divorce process unless the spouse is representing himself and herself.
"Behavior" is a very broad term as is the word "proper". Therefore I am unable to answer your question without more content of the discussion and the context in which it was made.
rhode Island ethics and divorce- family law
In some instances it is proper for a Rhode Island divorce attorney to speak with the wife and disclose certain info and sometimes it is not.
If you specifically told the lawyer not to disclose information and he did so anyways then the lawyer is wrongly disclosing confidential privileged info.
In many instances it is proper for a lawyer to disclose information to the spouse as part of negotiation. In other instances there is an implied right to dislosure.
You have not given enough facts for a RI divorce and family law lawyer to properly answer your questions.
Also, if your spouse has an attorney then the attorneys should be speaking with each other and not to the spouse directly.
