Legal Question in Family Law in Rhode Island
Ex Fiancee ripped me off
My Fiancee' and I lived together for 4 years. He has 2 children from a previous realtionship and I have one child from a previous relationship. He requested that I quit my job and stay home with the kids , and promised the bills would get paid (I owned the home before he moved in) I have paid off alot of bills for him as well purchasing a truck and lawnmower for his business. He has since abandoned us leaving us with a stack of bills and the mortgage behind one month aleady, do I have any recourse in recouping the monies that were used toward him his children and his business? He did pay the mortgage and bills but at more than one point he was not paying anything and I had to use credit cards to support all of us. We are probably talking well over $75,000 . Any ideas about what I should do? Should I get representation and try to sue? I've tried discussing the issue of the past due bills that were run up by the entire family and he does not want to discuss it.

Re: Ex Fiancee ripped me off
In family court your have no recourse against a fiancee' except as to any children that you have together. What you are describing is a civil matter that based upon the amount you describe you would want to bring to Superior Court in the County in which the Defendant (your Ex Fiancee') lives.
Unfortunately, your situation is much more detailed then you might expect in order to get proper legal advice in the minimum space that lawguru.com gives us to provide a response.
There are several causes of action you might consider and each has its own ramifications and consequences. The past due bills will be difficult depending upon whose name is on the bills, credit cards, etc...
More detail and a full consultation is needed to give you a true picture of what you are looking at here.
There is much more to this than you might imagine.
