No. In this limited case only it really doesn�t matter whether you hire a lawyer or not. The car loan company will not remove the name of any signer or co-singer of the loan until the loan is paid in full because they do not have to. The only protection you could get is a WRITTEN promise from the ex that you are not responsible for the loan and that they will defend and indemnify you in the event the car loan company sues you. This part is tricky and you do need a lawyer to do it correctly.
