Legal Question in Family Law in Rhode Island

I have been a stay at home mom for the past 20 yrs while my husband has climbed the ladder to success. We have moved 12 times in 20 years for his career. My question is now that my kids are almost all 18, I am trying to find a job and not having any luck. If I were to file for a divorce, would my husband be responsible for allimony or will I have to wait until I find a job to support myself?

Based on the limited facts set forth in your question, you may well be entitled to alimony.

Understand, though, alimony commonly is rehabilitative - that is, it may be awarded just long enough to permit you to get an education to provide the skills you need to join the workforce - an education you could not get while you were raising your children and running the household.
