Legal Question in Family Law in Rhode Island

I am a twenty year old mother with a 14 month old son. At the time he was born, I was still in a relationship with the father and he signed the birth certificate and my son took his last night. Since his birth, the father has had little interaction with him. He comes and vists about once a week for an hour (even though he mostly comes and talks to my parents and ignores his son), never has had him overnight, and hasn't paid me child support in about a year. He's very careless with him and also has exhibited some unhealthy mental states of mind. I was just wondering the rights he has to see our son and what rights I could get from court? I'm just a worried mother looking out for the best interest of her son. Thanks so much!

If there is not a court order for visitation, then do not allow it.

If there is, then get counsel and take action to restrict or stop it.

Make sure you have evidence that supports your claims.
