Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Rhode Island

car loan

hi, i recently purchased a car with me being the loan holder and someone else co-signing and registering the car for me, we have disagreed on a separate matter and the co-signer has taken the car from me. i was wondering if that is even legal, considering its not a matter of me being unable to afford the car?

Re: car loan

The answer to your question has to do with who is listed on the title to the car. If the co-signer is on the title to the car, the co-signer has the right to possess the car because the co-signer is considered the owner of the car. The owner of the car is typically the person that the car is registered to.

The loan actually has nothing to do with the co-signer taking the car from you. That is simply a contractual obligation to pay for the car between the signers and the bank or company that you financed the car with.

My best of luck to you with your issue.
