You'll likely need to first apply for and be approved for the J-1 waiver. Once the waiver is approved, you can proceed with the adjustment of status to permanent residence.

First, congratulations on getting married. If your spouse is a US citizen, you may be eligible to apply for permanent residency in the US. First, you need to review whether you are subject to the two year home residency requirement. You should do this with an attorney. If you are not, then you may be eligible to file your permanent residency application while in the US. If you are subject to the two year home residency requirement, you will not be able to apply for permanent residency until you reside at home for 2 years, or obtain a waiver of that requirement. Again, an attorney will be able to assist you with that determination and to discuss any waivers for which you would be eligible.
