termination for bouncing personal check
Can an employer fire you for bouncing a check drawn on a personal account which was used for company business? It was under $50.00 and was cleared up immediately upon being made aware of it, however, employer was contacted instead of the employee by the company to whom the check was given.

Rhode Island is what is known as an "employment at will" state, which simply means that unless the employee (i) is a member of a group that has a contract with the employer (such as a union), or (ii) has an empoloyment agreement with the employer, an employer can fire the employee for any reason or for no reason just so long as the basis for termination is not unlawful (such as because of your race, age, etc.).
The bottom line, then, based on the information in your question, is that unless you are a member of a union or have an employment agreement with your employer, the firing likely would be determined to be lawful.
