Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Rhode Island
Can a clerk of the court just randomly search out people's names for her friends to find out if they have criminal backgrounds? For instance she searched her daughter's boyfriend. Told lots of people he was a child abuser, however it was the wrong person. Different date of birth and middle initial. Recently at a wedding the court clerk's daughter blurted out that one of the guests had 2 warrants for his arrest. Again, wrong person with different middle initial and date of birth. Is this legal, can she do this? Who can one complain to about her repeatedly running people's names because she has access through her job?

Access to the information you describe is available to the public. Anyone can access it. This clerk, among many others, simply knows that.
