Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Rhode Island
I have a two family house in Slatersville, RI. It is not deleaded and I dont have any plans in the near future to delead it. Can I legally rent to a family with a 4 year old? Could I get into any trouble if I do rent to them?

Not deleaded is not necessarily the same as contains lead paint. Assuming, however, for purposes of this question that there is lead paint, perhaps you might ask yourself this question:
.
How would you feel if a 4 year old relative of yours suffered lead poisoning and you later learned that the landlord knew there was lead in the apartment when he leased it to the family?
.
Put differently, let your conscience be your guide. Hire a qualified lead abatement contractor to help you understand and comply with the law. A 4 year olds' life may depend on it.
.
And yes, you most certainly could get into trouble, both in a Court of law and, more importantly, with a higher authority.
.
Just by asking the question, I suspect in your heart you already knew the answer. Now do the right thing.
