Re: ownership of property

If you want your husband to own the property in Rhode Island (RI) and you want him to acquire the real estate ( real property)automatically in the event of your death, then you should put his name on the deed. Most married couples in Rhode Island own property jointly as tenants by the entirety. Owning real estate as tenants be the entirety is a form of joint ownership which is only allowed to married couples. "Tenants by the entirety" gives married couples further protection against potential creditors. If the property is owned jointly the real estate will not go into probate upon your or his death and will automatically pass to the other spouse who survived.
