Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Rhode Island
Withholding Good Faith Deposit
My mortgage was declined because my employer recinded my relocation. I fulfilled all of the terms of the Sales agreement within the specified timeframes and the contract should have been cancelled. However, my lawyer says the Seller is trying to ''extort'' money from my good faith deposit and won't release my funds. Can I go to the police since it technically does sound like extortion?

No. This is a civil matter. Your "lawyer" should immediately begin the process of getting your deposit refunded, if available, as per the contract. If your lawyer is not doing the job, get in touch.
