Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Rhode Island

i recently found out that my father has been deceased for a little over a year, unfortunately i have no documentation to prove that he is my father and had not seen him in 14 years. i am his only living relative and i also found out that he had a $600,000 pension. is there any way to recover that money.
