Legal Question in Business Law in South Carolina
Currently I work for my father in a small sporting goods business. The business is closing with a significant amount of debt that will require my father to file bankruptcy. If I were to start my own business under my name (my name is not on anything regarding the current business other than I am an employee) and hire my father as an employee can I be liable for his debts because I am his daughter? Can my business be affected by his debts?

Any attorney will say the answer is you can't be liable for debts of another business unless you agreed to assume the debts. Consult with an attorney in your area for specifics.
