Possession of child pornography

Dec 24th I moved across the US to live with a long time friend. I hooked up my lap top computer to his network. Sometime in march I was cleaning my computers contents and discovered child porn disguised as an AOL file. It had been down loaded to my computer Jan 10th. I would like to know How it got on my computer; possible accident or deliberately. Because it was on my computer, where do i stand legally and what do I do???

Alert AOL to the timedate stamp, file name and date on your system, but first, ask their guidance on how to clean your computer.
