Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in South Carolina

Civil suit

Am being sued by former landlord for damages to property - he kept my 500 deposit and wants me to pay 800 more -i do not believe that the damages were to that extent - but i have no proof of anything because i have moved out and didnt think that i did any thing wrong therfore no pics or anything - what should i do also the lease was expired and he never had me to sign a new on
