Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in South Carolina
Forgery and Statute of limitation
I am in the process of trying to clear up my bad debt on my credit reports. I have 2 credit cards on my credit report that my wife (now ex-wife) had forged my signature without my knowledge. When going through our divorce I did nothing about pressing charges against her on this matter. One of the creditors is trying to collect from me. Should I obtain a lawyer and press charges against her now or is it too late? Also some of my bad credit reports are said to remain on my report for another year or 2. If I do nothing about paying them off, will they be gone then or will creditors be able to still find information on them after the period has lapsed?

Re: Forgery and Statute of limitation
I don't really have any answers to your questions but I wonder if you need to sue your ex-wife or if you can just write to them saying you didn't sign certain documents, she did, and then point them to her to pursue? If I were you, I might rather have them pursue the ex-wife than to do it myself.
Sorry I cannot answer your questions; I hope someone else does for you.
