Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in South Carolina

If my husband passes away and is owing hospital bills above and beyond what his insurance paid, will I be responsible for them. I am the beneficiary of his life insurance policy.

No, you will not be personally responsible for his bills. However, his probate estate would be responsible. Life insurance should not be included in the probate estate. I suggest that you sit down with an attorney to discuss some estate planning. Doing so may save you money in the long run.
