Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina

Alcohol Possession Ticket

My 19 year old son was at a party as a designated driver and was seen by an officer picking up a case of beer to give to someone else. A police officer gave my son a possession ticket. Wondering what this does to my son's record and is there any recourse he can take to have it not show up on his record.
