Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina

If arrested for solicitation for prostitution in SC is it necessary to have legal representation for a first offense ( no priors ). Although sex for money was not

initiated by myself, I did agree. Am not a SC resident and paid the bond.

Read law code SC 16-15-90, but am looking to avoid this black mark through a lesser charge, some type of adjudication, etc...what might someone expect to pay for representation? Do I need to be present or can an attorney represent my interests...would that be frowned upon by the trial officer? Is expungement or seal possible?

As far as whether you need representation, Yes. You have been charged with a crime that carries potential jail and could result in a criminal record. It is highly advisable to have an attorney. A lessor charge might be possible. As far as being present, that depends on what stage of the criminal process your referring to. If you retain an attorney then your very first court date gets waived and you would not need to be present. Depending on whether or not you have a prior record, an expungement is possible. As far as sealing it, no. They will not do that.

I could tell you more if I knew which court this was in and what county.
