Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina

If a Canadian citizen is arrested and convicted of a crime in the US, can this citizen be transported back to Canada to serve the sentence.

That can become a complicated issue. I am a criminal defense attorney in the Myrtle Beach area and I had someone convicted a few years ago of a serious crime who lived in Canada. At the time, we contacted Canada and they informed us that they would not be willing to handle this person's probation. I would assume the same goes for any sort of incarceration. I could not imagine why Canada would want to spend the money. Although I can't say for sure, my guess is no, it probably could not be done.
