Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina

When I broke up with my ex he got a little crazy and pulled a firearm on me. I went a pressed charges. However unforseen cercumstances and our child is ill. How do I go about getting the charges dropped? A records clerk said I may not be able to.
