can you change lawyers at a plea hearing?

I am and have been a criminal defense attorney for a long time here in South Carolina. I have seen defendants ask for a new attorney at all stages of the process, including the plea hearing.
If that is your intentions, I strongly suggest addressing this matter before the hearing. If you wait until the hearing to make your request and the judge denies it, then it could cause some serious difficulties. If you feel that strongly about getting a new lawyer, then you need to look into it well in advance of the hearing.
