detective called about an incident

i was involved in a verbal altercation with another woman who has now signed a statement along with another unknown ''witness'' saying that i scratched her car. a detective called and asked me to come in to sign a statement of my own. Am i legally obligated to do so. What will happen if i dont go in

You are not legally obligated to sign a statement. In fact, you have a right to not talk with the police if you don't want to. As far as what would happen if you don't, no one can answer that question. It appears that the police are investigating at this point. There is no way for me to know what they intend to do.
