felony charge

My son (19) charged with malicious injury to property of 1000-5000 dollars. They made a lean to with wood on someone else's property. Is this a felony charge??? Live in SC

Based upon the limited amount of information its hard to see where the crime of Malicious Injury to Property has occurred. What property are they saying was damaged? And yes, that is a felony.
