Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina

Filing for contention help

I'm a student and just received a Minor In Possession of Beer citation. I have a meeting with a lawyer tomorrow and was looking into filing for contention due to interference with my classes. What sort of information should I be aware of prior to my meeting. Will filing for contention help me postpone my court date and possibly wind up to the charges being dropped if the officer doesn't appear at court? I just need some help. Thanks
