Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina
I was granted a protection order against my ex boyfriend and he contacted me. I responded back. I filed a police report because they were I felt like harassing text messages. I'm facing a possible punishment for filing a false police report. What is the punishment for SC?

Its hard to answer your question because its hard to understand what you described. The best I can figure out is that you received text messages from your ex-boyfriend so you called the police since he violated the Order of Protection. Based on what you explained, I do not see how you filed a false police report.
You asked what the punishment it is. I don't blame you for asking, but I am always hesitant to answer that question. Reason is, I don't want to give people the impression that they will receive what the staute says is the potential punishment. That is because all I can do is tell you what the "potential" sentence is. I have no way of knowing what a person would recieve on any particular case. The staute allows for the judge to order a fine, up to 5 years in jail, and restitution to reimburse the police. But keep in mind that I have only provided you what the statute says is the "potential" punishment.
