Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina

Identity Theft

A family member of mine used my name when arrested for shoplifting at a retail store. This family member had nothing to identify them as me. The retail store used information given and filed a false charge against me.This family member spent the night in jail and received a bond in my name. I am now having to go through the process of getting my record expunged. Is there anything I can do about this? I'm afraid this will happen again. Please help. Thank you.

Re: Identity Theft

Personally, I don't know what steps you can take to prevent it from happening again. Maybe if you inform the person who pretended to be you that giving false information to a police officer is a crime. Sorry for your troubles.
