what kind of punishment follows assault?
my friend pointed gun at another man in argument. No bodily injury was done. Now my friend in detention center. what happens next? He has been sentenced to 8 mths in jail. Is this standard? Can we find a way to help him? He has no priors.

Three things can be done after a criminal sentencing. One, appeal; two, motion for reconsideration; and three, post conviction relief. You or your "friend," need to consult with an attorney to see if anything can be done. I can't tell you here because I do not know enough about the case.
