limitation on a warrant

I got a letter today stating that i had a warrant out on me. so i called and this was a warrant from april 30 1991. i was in the military and they said i wrote a bad check on october 22 1990, so the warrant was issued 6 months and 8 days from the date of the check. i thought u only had 180 to do this can u help me. thank you
