Re: Misdemeanors and felonies
The difference between a misdemeanor and a felony is not always clear-cut from state to state. It is often said that the difference is defined by the maximum length of time a person can be incarcerated for the crime, usually no more than one year. Strangely enough some crimes are classified as misdemeanors but carry potential jail senteces that can be quite long, similar to that of a felony. One such crime in South Carolina is ABHAN; Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature. This crime is actually classified as a misdemeanor, but carries up to 10 years in jail.
