Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina
My mother was murdered by her husband. He killed another man a short time later. Once caught, he led investigators to my mothers remains and admitted to killing her. The solicitors office is charging him with the murder of the other man, and says if they get a conviction, he wont be charged or tried in the murder of my mother. Is this normal?

It varies. Due to the time, expense and other considerations, if a person is given a life term in prison for a murder, then further prosecution for other murders would not change the fact that the person has already been committed to prison. You might want to consider a civil action against him if he had any assets.
You might also want to check with the state's Attorney General's office. They also prosecute crimes as does the federal prosecutors.
