Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina

im at my mothers house and my kids say the neighbor is drunk and cursing them and may have had a weapon possibly a bat. i go to the fence at their drive way, still in my mothers yard and ask who was talking to my kids in this way,the ladies get into a loud conversation with me and my kid, i turn to tell my kid to leave and hush and let me handle this situation and before i can turn back around the seemingly impaired guy jumps out of a van and hollars hes gonna fuck me up and i pull out my gun an chambered a round and he imediately backed off and i placed the gun to my side he called the law and they left the scene and a few days later filled out a criminal complaint and now a detective wants me to give a signed statment as to what happened .WHAT SHOULD I DO
