Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina

Process when aarresting a minor

I am in South Carolina and my son was arrested for shoplifting. He is 17 years. He was handcuffed, taken to the law enforcement center, fingerprinted, photos taken, went in front of the magistrate, released on his own recog.... all without a parent. Don't they have to notify a parent? How can a minor OR himself???? HELP we go to court tomorrow and I don't know what to do.... I do not want him to get out of it but I also don't want the law to get away with not following proper procedure

They are allowed to charge a 17 as an adult. I understand your concerns. There is a program that is an alternative to prosecution that would require community service that your son might be interested in. What county is this in? Respond to [email protected]
