Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina
This question is relating to South Carolina law:
I am a member of a college and am walking along the campus one day and suddenly come upon a printed sign made by the college, overturned and at least a month old (it's dated) in the parking lot of one of the college buildings. I take it. Have I committed a crime, especially relating to theft? How would laws of abandonment relate to this issue?
Take, for example, taking a Styrofoam cup obviously abandoned, or taking a car that has been overturned in a ditch and is now rusting. Are either of this, with the above scenario, illegal?
If the above situation is NOT illegal, would seizure by police constitute a violation of private property?
Thank you very much for both your time and your help; I am a hopeful pre-law student and saw something curious when the above situation happened to me.

Were you arrested? If so, do you still have a charge pending?
