shoplifting

I have to meet with the DA tomorrow. Can I plead no contest or plea bargain down from a shop lifting charge?

Re: shoplifting

Your questions is an intelligent one. However, the options available in a criminal case always depend on a number of things, such as a person's past criminal record, how strong the evidence is for the prosecution, extenuating circumstances, whether the victim is presistant on prosecution, whether its a felony shoplifting or a misdemeanor (over $1,000 is a feloney), and other things. Obviously I don't know any of these things so I am not in a postition to tell you what will happen. I can tell you that pleading No Contest will still result in a criminal record. With cases such as there are often alternatives to prosecution such as Pre-Trail Intervention. You are welcome to email me at [email protected] if you have any other questions. My law firm is in Horry County but I practice state-wide. Robert Johnston
