Legal Question in Criminal Law in South Carolina
shopplifting question...i did not do it
In 2002, I was charged in Georgia with a misdemeanor shopplifting.
It was first offender, I served community service and paid my fees. The record is supposedly exspunged, not sure.
This past Jan 2006, I was charged with 2 misdemeanors of shopplifting in South Carlloina. I was with the person doing the crime, and was charged with everything she was, as if i did too. I have representatoin in S.C. but he gives me very little, to no information.
I am in a financial situation where I am unable to pay my lawyer for my up coming hearing.
I am considering dropping my lawyer and pleeding guilty and taking the charge. After all I do not live in S.C. and would never need a job to have a background check preformed in S.C.
I would rather be able to pay my court fees and charges to the state rather than pay the lawyer and have no money for the courts, if t is not in my favor.
Is this a good idea?!?!
When I go to court will S.C. be able to see the prior conviction on my record and will that effect their decsion??
Please help me. My lawyer is no help. I need any advice I can get.

If you had done an expungement, you'd remember that, so it probably was not. Courts in one state can look up your convictions from other states.
