Simple Possession of Marijuana Paper

I am helping a student find out information for a paper she has to write on ''What is the Law for Simple Possession of Marijuana?'' I read some of your responses - Is 30 days & fine usually the penalty for a first offense? and How much of a fine is usually issued?

Very, very seldom does a person go to jail for a first offence. Usually its just a fine of around $400 to $500 (varies from court to court) and a 6 month suspension of the drivers license.
